Newmarket bets

The last visit of the year to Newmarket for the current flat season.  And what a meeting it is,  amongst other races we have the Cesarewitch. It’s a very long race, two miles and two furlongs to be exact, for thoroughbred horses aged three years and above. It as always attracts a very large field this year 34 riders.

Now Marxists close your eyes for this race was named after Tsesarevich [title of heir to the Russian throne] Alexander later Tsar Alexander 11. Although by the standards of Tsars he was quite liberal. But it didn’t prevent his assassination in 1881. 
So the young Tsesarevich Alex gave 300 quid to the Jockey club and has the race named after him.  The English as we the Welsh know so well are not great at pronunciations, so Tsesarevich became Cesarewitch.  As for Alexander, he should have stuck to the gee gees and not to ruling.  Better broke than dead.

Not only the Cesarewitch but the chance to pick out some of next year’s champions. There are four races for two-year-olds.  It was here last year in the Dubai Dewhurst Stakes that Frankel showed his star quality.

So all in all a cracking card and our aim is to finish this meeting with a few winners

2.05         Chachamaiddee [2nd] has shown consistent form all season and gets the nod from Strong Suit [1st] who is also a strong horse and has form following a good win with some style in Goodwood

2.35         Rebellious Guest is not for everyone but he’s the one to beat Caspar Netscher

3.10         This is the race that Frankel laid his claim to fame last year  This year is could be Bronterre [4th] showing what’s to come.

3.50         Normally I only back one horse in a race, but with so many entries and with such good odds for each way bets I’m choosing three. Never can tell [1st at 25/1] the horse that could deliver for Dettori the one major race that so far has eluded him. Becausewecan with very big odds or Veiled who has the form.

4.25         Pimpernel [2nd]  or Sunday Times

5.00         Red Aggressor a good outsider to take on Astrology

5.35         Dux Scholar [2nd] is the one but Bubble chic [1st] came second in French derby so worth a look
